online marketing

Let’s face it, mechanical and industrial contracting isn’t the most glamorous thing. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t rewarding, though. It’s just not the sort of thing that goes viral on the internet.

Still, there are many things that can be done online each day as a business that will attract more website views from potential buyers and, ultimately, bring in more customers.

1. Use Strong Calls to Action in Ads

When buying ads online, the first goal is not to make a sale. It’s usually for a potential customer to click through to your website or subscribe to a mailing list. This means online ads must be clear and concise, ending with a strong call to action: “Visit our website for a free quote today!”, “Click here and subscribe to our mailing list for a coupon!”, “Shop now, sale ends today!”, etc.

2. Have a Mobile-Friendly Website

The number of total mobile users in the world is already bigger than the total number of desktop users. Unfortunately, many businesses don’t realize that their websites aren’t optimized for mobile use, leading to a clunky and frustrating user experience for potential customers. Businesses should make sure their website is mobile-friendly so that busy people who need their services can find them on the go, from any device.

3. Get Familiar with SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be your best friend or your worst enemy if you don’t understand how it works. SEO is what helps websites rank highly in search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. Ideally, a business should come up as the first search result if someone searches for their specific business name or make the first page of a local search for ‘Mechanical and Industrial Contractors’. A few ways that businesses can improve their SEO is by using keywords properly, getting backlinked by quality sources, keeping their information up to date, and posting quality content on a business blog and/or social media.

4. Grow Your Web Presence

One of the main points of online marketing is for businesses to catch the attention of people who may need their services, and keep those people’s attention until they decide to give the business a try. The more there is to find out about a business online, the more likely it is that people will trust it enough to reach out. Businesses can grow their web presence by encouraging positive reviews online, posting interesting information and pictures on social media, sharing content that brings customers value, and being authentic.

Online marketing is a nuisance for some businesses, especially in industries that are generally less exciting. Still, with the right attitude and outlook, any business can take the initiative and transform its online image.

It's also important to remember that if you're NOT online then you're missing the boat and that's what's happening with a lot of mechanical and industrial contractors. If you don't have a powerful presence online, how can the commercial and municipal sectors find out more about you or compare you to your competitors in a meaningful way?

Small actions like remembering to use a call to action in all ads, updating the website so that it is mobile friendly, learning a little bit about SEO, and growing a web presence are all ways that businesses can start to grow their online marketing efforts.
